The Amur tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) is the northernmost subspecies of the tiger, the largest and once widespread representative of the Felidae family in Asia. Most other tiger subspecies are on the verge of extinction. The Amur Tiger, thanks to the efforts made in the second half of the twentieth century.

The need to preserve the population of the Amur tiger in the south of the Far East is fixed by legislative and other regulatory legal acts. The Amur tiger is listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation. The legal regulation of its protection is provided by the Federal Laws "On Environmental Protection", "On Wildlife", "On Specially Protected Natural Territories", as well as international treaties – the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), to which the Russian Federation is a party.
