The animal received its second name "sea lion" not in vain. This name was given to him by the German biologist Stiller, when he first saw a huge miracle with a massive withers, Golden eyes and the same color of hair. Something similar still exists between these animals.

The eared seal is a fairly large animal – the length of an adult male representative of the species reaches 4 meters, and the weight can reach up to 650 kilograms. Rarely, but still there are individuals that weigh up to a ton. Females are somewhat smaller in size and weight.

It should be noted that this color of wool in the eared seal is not constant. In adolescence, it is light brown in color and changes as it grows up, gradually turning into light yellow, but in winter the color changes again, reaching a dark brown, almost chocolate color.
